What is spinal decompression?

Providing Health and Balance Through Chiropractic

There has been much information in the media recently about the merits of spinal decompression.  Spinal decompression works by alleviating the pressure on disks. When a disk is compressed, the disk material can move from its place between bones in the spine, into the space occupied by the sensitive nerves. When the nerves become crowded, the patient may experience great pain and pressure which can radiate down one or both legs. Usually, this pain is not alleviated by even the strongest of pain medications. Many times, the condition warrants the use of medications, which may be addictive to mask the pain long enough to give the patient some relief. Long term however, the risk for addiction increases, while the source of the pain is untreated.

Spinal decompression reduces the pressure on the disc, eliminates the source of the pain, therefore eliminating or reducing the need for pain medications as well as helping the patient avoid the risks involved with spinal surgery.

Dr. Cheryl Blanck treats a variety of conditions such as Back Pain, Neck Pain, Headaches, Foot Pain, Sciatica, and Herniated Discs at her convenient location on HWY 29N in Andalusia, AL..
